Woodward Experiences a Surge in Pickleball Popularity

Pickleball growing in Woodward

Woodward, OK – Pickleball instructor Antonio Lares, who has been with Chicken N Pickle in Oklahoma City for over two years, is coming to Woodward thanks to pickleball enthusiast Kathryn Fanning.

After enjoying her lessons with Lares, Fanning wanted to share the experience with others.

Pickleball, a sport that blends elements of tennis, table tennis, and badminton, will be showcased by Antonio at the Crystal Beach Sports Complex on July 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Following the clinic, he will be available for private lessons.

The group here in Woodward meets multiple times during the week and encourages players of all ages to join, she said.

“I thought it was kind of a sissy sport, to begin with,” said Lana Edwards who grew up playing tennis. “But it soon became addicting and I love the sport.”

Those who are looking for a new sport that can also be played indoors at the Crystal Beach Sports Complex on one of the three pickleball courts in an air-conditioned chilled environment. Twelve players can play at a time, all thanks to the complex.
