The Del Mar Wine and Food Festival returns to the North County Oct. 2-7. The Drew Brees Celebrity Pickleball Tournament is being held for the second time at the Bobby Riggs Racket and Paddle facility.

“It’s the Del Mar Wine and Food Festival, It’s about as good as it gets in San Diego,” said Ernie Hahn, co-founder of the Del Mar Food and Wine Festival.
“Paddle sports, pickleball, and food, it’s great” continued former Padres infielder and longtime MLB veteran Mark Loretta. “San Diego is known for its culinary scene and it’s also known now for pickleball. These courts used to all be tennis but now they’re pickleball. It’s the fastest growing sport in the United States.”
This event likely involves celebrities, including former NFL quarterback Drew Brees, Rob Machado, CoCo Vandeweigh and many more participating in a pickleball tournament on Friday, Oct. 4 with all proceeds benefiting Feeding San Diego.
“It’s an opportunity to support those in need specifically with food insecurity,” continued Loretta, “whether it be school children looking for school pantry’s, Military Families, obviously inflation has made times tough in that regard and Feeding San Diego is at the forefront of providing nutritious meals to people who need it.”
Last year, the Pickleball tournament successfully raised $25,000 to support Feeding San Diego, with hopes to surpass that amount in the future.
“Why not say $50,000,” Loretta said. “We’re feeding families and changing lives.”
