Good News for Mississippi pickleball enthusiasts. Pickleball – the fastest-growing sport in the USA takes over the Jackson metropolitan area, Mississippi.
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Three cities in the Jackson metro are adapting their parks to meet the growing demand for pickleball facilities.
Liberty Park in Flowood will soon be home to 18 new pickleball courts, located at the property’s entrance.
Before construction, tennis courts at Winner’s Circle were converted to pickleball courts. Once the courts at Liberty Park are complete, the tennis courts will revert to their original purpose.
“We had so many people talk to City Hall about how they love the pickleball courts, but we need more in the city,” Flowood Economic Development Director Daniel Lang said. “It just adds to our park experience and the overall quality of life for our citizens and visitors that come to Flowood.”
Construction is anticipated to be finished by the year’s end.
While Flowood is building new courts, Ridgeland adapted its current tennis courts to increase the number of pickleball courts.
In June, the city of Ridgeland resurfaced six tennis courts to enhance playing conditions, converting two of them into four pickleball courts.
“I think both Flowood and Ridgeland have healthy initiatives. So, if we can help make Mississippi healthier, that’s what we’re all about, too,” Lang explained.
