Washington, VA – The Rappahannock County Recreational Facilities Authority (RCRFA) is organizing an open pickleball tournament at Rappahannock County Park on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 9 a.m., with a rain date of Oct. 6.
The event aims to celebrate the local pickleball community’s growing enthusiasm, which began when permanent lines were added to one of the park’s tennis courts.
RCRFA Chair Becky Burr highlighted the increase in participation, with county residents of all skill levels regularly gathering for pickup games.
The doubles tournament will follow a round-robin format, and participation is free for everyone. Registration is open until Oct. 2 by emailing KayMWilson@gmail.com. Participants are encouraged to bring their own paddles and finger food to share.
In response to the rising number of players, RCRFA will paint two additional pickleball courts on the park’s remaining tennis court, though this will briefly close the court for half a day. Tennis players will still maintain priority access unless a special event is scheduled.
This tournament reflects the growing passion for pickleball within the local community.
